WELCOME AND GREETINGS

PRELUDE      “The Haven of Rest”      Donna Rhine

CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have
set your glory in the heavens.
People: Through the praise of children and infants you have established
a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the
avenger.
Leader: When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and
the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are
mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?
People: You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned
them with glory and honor.
Leader: You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put
everything under their feet:
People: All flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild,
Leader: the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of
the seas.
People: Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
(Psalm 8)

OPENING PRAYER
Happy are we, O God, when our hearts are full, our ways are yours, and
our spirits enlivened by your call. Happy are we, O God, when our lives
are guided by delight. We gather here today for just that, holy God. We
gather to draw on all you would give us to be more fully yours. In
Jesus’ name we gather and we pray. Amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Almighty God, you love us, but we have not always loved you; you call,
but we have not always listened. We walk away from neighbors in need far
too often, wrapped up in our own concerns. We have gone along with evil,
with pride, quarreling, and divisiveness because it was the easy path.
Holy God, help us to face up to ourselves, so that, as you move toward us
in mercy, we may repent, turn to you, and receive the mercy you offer to
us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
